There are several things to remember when getting your work fired.
-
Please include information about what you want to fire, type of firing, clay/glaze type and your timescale.
-
Your work must be 'bone dry' before you can fire it.
-
Type of clay - we can fire most types of clay. It's a good idea to make a note of the packaging the clay came in - this will tell you the temperature range for your clay.
-
Type of glaze - if we are not familiar with the type of glaze you are using, we will ask you to fire your work on 'cookies' or 'patties' (thin flat slabs or discs of clay that are placed under your pottery during a glaze fire).
-
Damage - in pottery - things can go wrong! We are not responsible for damage to your work. If damage is caused to the kiln or kiln shelf or furniture, you are responsible for paying for damage to our kiln, should this occur. We will ask you to sign a firing contract: "Lancaster Ceramics cannot accept any responsibility for any damage to your work resulting from firing. Should any kiln damage occur during this firing, (POTTER'S NAME) will be liable to pay repair fees."
